Implemented digital accessibility in MTS's global design system: planned, tracked progress, and conducted development reviews. MTS — Top 3 ecosystems in Russia, with 82 million users engaging with its products every month.

Digital accessibility is an MTS initiative aimed at creating accessible products for people with visual, hearing, motor impairments, etc. According to Rosstat, various forms of disabilities affect 8% of Russia's population, representing a significant portion of the product audience.

Accessibility is important not only for people with permanent disabilities but also in cases of temporary limitations, such as a broken arm, loud noise, laryngitis, etc.

Impact

  • Led the accessibility direction without an established process or detailed operational guidelines
  • Independently studied accessibility standards, translated them into practical rules for design system implementation, and shaped the rollout plan together with iOS, Android, and web engineers
  • Documented accessibility requirements for 80+ components, including screen readers, dynamic type, touch targets, and color tokens
  • Defined a minimum touch area of 40×40 px to improve usability
  • Prepared 80+ specifications for design system components and wrote 6 internal articles on digital accessibility
  • Audited 5 products for compliance with digital accessibility standards and prepared recommendations for improvement
  • Made accessibility adoption clearer and more scalable for product teams through specifications, guidelines, and review processes
